I have had ADT for 2 years now and my property and have had no issues. I recently installed a dog door for my large Huskey and its big enough for myself to climb through, being 6' 3' to give you an idea. That being said, it's essentially an open invitation for some one to come through. While this does have the simple plastic insert on the inside as the 'door', it could easily be kicked in. Problem being, when the house is in 'Stay Mode' motion sensors are usually turned off so you can walk freely around the house.
Meaning, in stay mode, some one could enter the dog door and an alarm system would not be triggered. Long story short, I purchased a door sensor from amazon for my wireless security system which is the typical magnet style. I want to install this on the dog door to treat is as a normal door, keeping it armed at night in stay mode.
The system however needs an 'Installer Code' in order for me to add this. ADT won't give it out and they will charge to come install their own sensor which is about $120 each; I bought mine for $15.00 on amazon. I have tried last 4's of account numbers, cell phones, and all of the posted codes online that I could find without any luck.

I found some listed online: 1000,1212,1500,5555,2500,2525,2530,2500,3000,4010,5010,4020 I then tried things like the last 4 of my account number, last 4 of zip code, last 4 of phone number etc. I would have guessed to make it more secure, they wouldn't always use the same code across all their customers so assumed it would be something unique based on the customer's address or something they have a pattern for. The original manual for installing the panel says 5555 but that has obviously been changed so now I guess it could be anything. Every 6-7 tries it goes into keypad lockout mode for about 60 seconds so I couldn't brute force it if i wanted to.
Unfortunately you're likely at the mercy of ADT. Their systems are notorious for being locked down, you're only option is to pay them to install it. There may be a default code for your system, but they usually change it during the install. This is the reason I hate alarm companys. I didn't use ADT, but rather a local installer. I tried to change monitoring services 5 years after they installed it, but needed a code to do so. The installer refused to provide it.

I haven't had any issues with the service and don't really have the budget to rip it all out and go with my own system at this time. I don't even know if there is a standardized code used or if local installers and program it with whatever they choose.
